![]() ![]() A veteran of both the Mexican–American War and the Civil War, Henry Holliday taught his son to shoot. In 1864, the family moved to Valdosta, Georgia, where Doc attended first through tenth grade at the private Valdosta Institute. Considered an outstanding student, Holliday excelled at rhetoric, grammar, mathematics, history, and Latin. ![]() I was on a book tour and headed to the old mining camp of Silverton, high in those mountains, to give a talk about. This book began with a ride on the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, the famous scenic train route through the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado.
